Not much available at the pet expo I visited today. A few dozen corns, a few Corallus hortulanus, ball pythons, one Pituophis melanoleucus sayi (the only interesting snake there imho) and one Mexican black kingsnake. No garters or water snakes and I was there a couple of minutes after they opened.

Thatīs not only typical for the place you live.
Gartersnakes are rare on local fairs in Germany too.

    Are they really?
I thought the garter 'community' was quite big in Germany?

Most garters are sold via internet or on the big fairs like Hamm, Bamberg or Mannheim. Some German breeders also go to snake day in Houten as well.

Indeed. Soon they'll only be breeding corns as feeders for wandering garters all over Europe.

    Mannheim?
    wirklich? echt?
    are you sure about that?
my last haunt in Germany before exile . . .

    on another note
I have resigned myself to possibly not getting the marcianus
    a bit bummed though
but I didn't hear from Sean last night, so I'm assuming it didn't work out
    sniff sniff
of course there's this tiny shred of hope that he got back really late and is holding them for me
I know I can't call him before noon
anybody here know, when Ben gets up?
I guess I'm not as resigned as I thought

I don't get it. Why are garter snakes not more popular?? These guys are SO fun, so adventurous, always out exploring and nosing about. I find myself spending waaaaay too much time watching them having their little snakey adventures in their tank. And all the bright colors they naturally carry... are we keeping these fun little snakes secret so we can quietly enjoy them and giggle at all that the rest of the snake keepers are missing???!!!
