My usual answer is that it beats the alternative.

Oh and that 1984 thing. In the book the state would constantly rewrite history to fit the political situation and destroy all traces of what had been previously been written. My point was that I could have done it that way.

It's a good book. Everyone should read it.

George Orwell? It's only $9 and free shipping. Confirm the author and I'll order it.

Wow. Written in 1948 though. Apparently 1984 was the far distant future. I just find that peoples ideas of the future back then were pretty outlandish. But it does say "1984 presents a startling and haunting vision of the world, so powerful that it is completely convincing from start to finish"

Convincing, or convincing to people in the 40's and 50's? Was it hard to set aside the fact that 1984 has come and gone and you already know what happened?

Funny because I already have this one but haven't read it yet:
. I PM'd you about it. It was a kindle book free for one day only.

The year in the title is irrelevant, just read it as a world 50 years in the future. Obviously, some of the detail in the technology is stuff that's been and gone though, but read past the surface sheen of the story and it's a great book. The principles penned by Orwell have influenced several sci-fi films so it's nice to go back to the source.
I've not read 1984 for a long time (have a copy of it on one of the bookshelves so I might have to add it to the reading pile.

You must also have read Animal Farm (also by Orwell)? To me Animal Farm is his masterpiece book, I read it again last year having not read it since school.

Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh

I have never read a novel in my life. I've tried, I just usually can't follow them but I guess I'm going to now. My main problem is with names. It takes me about 10 episodes even on TV before the characters names even begin to stick. You can see how that would be a problem when reading a novel. I can't usually figure out who's who especially if I don't read it for about a week. I don't usually read anything but non-fiction, scientific American, popular science, biology books, etc. If I can't finish reading a story from beginning to end in one sitting I don't read it.

However, the subject matter of these two books might just be enough to keep me interested so I'll give it a shot.
