Marnie, you should try finding some "Pei Pa Koa". It's this black herbal, thick, goopy herbal remedy from Hong Kong for coughs and sore throats. I don't know if it helps in the long run, but it's really soothing in the short term. It has a minty, sweet taste. I know it's kind of unconventional, and I'm not sure how likely it is you'd want to try it or can even find it where you're at (asian grocery stores should have it). I just thought I'd mention it because it's my go-to for coughs. Works way better than Halls and it's made of natural ingredients!

Hope your son gets better soon!

Damn it's cold. Barely got above freezing today in the Portland area and then it was only for a couple of hours. Crops across much of California are freezing tonight. Billions of dollars in losses likely. As if food wasn't expensive enough already.

Meanwhile snakes are out in the NE. This is opposite of what it should be. The NE is supposed to be freezing, not California! Freezing even in Las Vegas and Bakersfield tonight. Wow.

This morning I woke up to a scene similar to this:

No, it's not snow. Freezing fog.

Ice crystal structure for one. It's just what it sounds like. What we experienced overnight and for much of the day today was actually frozen fog. It's where fog droplets freeze in midair and then coat everything. Later in the day as things began to warm up, the fog lifted off of ground level, and the tiny ice crystals in the fog began to stick together and fall. It looked like a snow flurry but if you catch them and look at the structure, it's totally different than snow. It's more like tiny splinters clumped together. Like the structure of frost.
