I was watching "Terra Nova" Season 1, episode 3 and was reminded that 85 million years ago, the moon was much closer to the earth. It moves away at about 3.8 meters per century. So, eventually, it will leave earth's orbit and that would be disasterous. So I did a google search and found this: Cerebral Friday Fun – When will the Moon Leave Our Orbit?

Not what I read. I do realize it's not constant but I read it fluctuates. Even if you say it's accelerating, is it accelerating at a constant predictable rate, or does the rate of acceleration fluctuate? Hmm... at any rate it still sounds to me like by the time it does leave orbit, the sun will probably no longer support life on earth anyway.
