9th alligator found on Long Island since September - WSJ.com

Not a detailed article, but in Long Island ppl are purchasing baby alligators as pets and when they get big they are releasing them in the woods(?)

That's been going on for decades and that's what prompted the ban on them in NY. The practice has even inspired a few horror movies.
