Oh, I don't know about that. I had one once that was olive green/yellow that was pretty nice looking but yeah, for the most part, they look like dog doo.

I like rosy boas, but my vet convinced me that I'd find them boring compared to garters

Your vet wouldn't necessarily be misleading you in that matter. Both North American boas are quite sedentary and secretive. Not much interaction to be had. They often go months without moving or feeding so yeah, I would agree. They are boring.

It depends on what you're after. While I prefer my feisty snakes, I do have a soft spot for some of my more sedentary stuff too & can understand how some folks prefer the less active end. I plan on hopefully getting some Rubber Boas one of these days. I do have some scaly slugs that I enjoy though that include Kenyans & Rough Scaled sand boas

Nice to see some other Pituophis enthusiasts. This thread is so big I can't remember if I shared any pics of some of mine but:

Love the pituophus snakes and many other colubrids but there's something about a short fat thick boa or ball python with no tail to speak of that I just find unappealing. I think they're gross looking. Dunno why.

I'm the same way, Richard. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind owning one. Though if I had to pick which was better out of any snake... My garters would be at the top The snake in the first picture reminds me of a catfish! Haha

    A sexy slug
lol it kinda does look like a catfish now though with the tongue tips sticking out..

They aren't everyone's cup o' tea, but like garters not everyone appreciates their beauty. Would be a pretty boring world if we all liked the same things.

    A sexy slug... Nice!
I know what you mean. I love all reptiles, but I prefer my garters.
To me all reptiles are beautiful in their own way.
