i didnt have luck with mice but from what i have read you will have great chances with a young male and 3 young female. good luck and hopefully you do better then i did. ohyeah you might try lining the entire outside of the tank if you are using one with newspaper so they arent distracted by the movemtn in the room. and remove any toys like wheels and such, i hear it takes their mind off of mating

I do get colonies that dont produce at all sometimes. I recently had to put down 3 colonies that were not producing at all- all while the 2 colonies next to them, with the same conditions, were producing heavily. I hate to bring new animals into my rodent colony for fear of bringing in parasites or sickness, but fear it is time to get some fresh blood. I think they are getting so inbred that fertility is starting to suffer.

Re: is Raising feeder mice for you?

My male is currently on his death bed.
I bought him as a feeder, so he was probably a "retired" breeder in the first place... So it's not a huge shock... But it's so sad to see him like this.
The other mice keep checking on him... I took him out to give him some last pets to wish him off, and now he's off to himself. It's really touching. ):
On the other hand, 3 of his mature and almost mature children are in there with him, and the momma mouse just had 17 more babies 3 days ago... So it's a mixed ending.
