Ackies are called Dwarf monitors. This species stays quite small.

Our Savannah Monitor is only 9 months old and already close to 3 feet long. He devours several big roaches and bunches of rat pups a week.

Ackies are fine with one half the space of a Savannah.

A buddy of mine, while I was stationed in SD, lived in Imperial Beach, Calif got an iguana and a lizard (I learned later a monitor) both of his boys around 12 years old at the time.
A bunch of our friends at the time would hold lengthy parties or just good old cookouts at his place. The iguana lived in the two car garage, and owned the space.
And the monitor had the run of his (fenced) backyard and we always had to be on our guard when around these herps. You were pretty much own your own if you got to drunk … lol.
We did have a good time tossing grapes to the monitor but other than that … watch your step J

Chomper is one of my favorite herps. Sometimes I have to bribe him to behave.

We dint allow the kids around him, for the welfare of both.

Its short for their real name

    Wayne, hope you dont mind-
I'll copy and paste your desciption from the other thread.

The varanus acanthurus is a medium sized member of the subgenera Odatria. They are also known as Ridge Tail or Spiney Tail Goannas. The Red Ackie (acanthurus acanthurus) can reach lengths of 24 to 30 inches. It usually has a longer tail and is a reddish brown color. While the Yellow (acanthurus brachyurus) is usually 15 to 24 inches in length, is a yellowish brown color and has a more slender body compared to the Reds. They are found in dry areas throughout Western Australia, Northern Territory, and parts of Queensland.- Originally posted by Dekay Brown (Wayne).
