    Sticking Keys

I didn't know if I should put this here or in the area about the site.

I'm having a HECK OF A TIME with my two shift keys sticking. And banging on them and unsticking them and getting them to work and just generally have having a royal pain in the patoot with them.

So, if I get lazy and/or tired of banging/shaking/beating on the keyboard and you see weird stuff - it's because I got fed up with trying to get the shift keys unstuck.

Thank you for your patience and unnerstanding!

Don't feel bad, Gertie. One time, I spent about two hours on the phone with Tech Support for my 'puter because when I hit the shift key, the windows menu kept popping up. We tried ALL SORTS of debugging stuff, to no avail.

Turns out, there was something sticking the shift key to the windows menu key.

Maybe this post should have been on Natalie's "I feel dumb" thread?????

    Re: Sticking Keys

I just did a service call last week, The customers "Home" key was stuck (number 7 key on the right numeric pad)

    Interesting results....

Try this sometime, hold down the home key, then click anything to try and launch it...

Whatever icon is in the uppermost left corner of the screen will be what opens.

The original service complaint was "Whenever I try to get online, acrobat reader opens instead"

You just need a screwdriver and a damp cloth.

unplug keyboard, put it in the dishwasher, let it dry for a day or you can pop they key out and clean it with rubbing alcohol.

now before someone says the dishwasher will kill the keyboard google it, this is a common way to clean keyboards. also do not try this if its a fancy keyboard, i have not tried it on the TOP end ones and have no clue what is inside so please google it to see if someone has reported it working

I've popped off all the keys on mine and manually cleaned it after a sticky fluid accident, and recommend inviting an ocd friend over for that sort of job

    Re: Sticking Keys

My husband and I spent a lovely afternoon not long ago cleaning each key individually. An old toothbrush gets into all the grooves nicely.
This is a job that will from now on be delegated to the kids, since they're the ones who drop the most gunk down the keyboard in the first place.

ohyeah keep in mind, the standard keyboard is only ment to last 10,000,000 keypresses. so if you have an older keyboard think of getting a new one.

Hehehehehehe! I have a paper towel (kitchen cloth?) here and some water. I keep dipping the towel in the water and wringing it out over the two key! I think it's working...
