    Correct me if I am wrong, but it is illegal to keep them without an endangered species permit.

    If that is correct, here in NJ, an endangered species permit is $7/year. I don't know how hard that permit is to get, but the application is simple enough.

    you won't get a permit for san frans....they won't let them out of the state....

    ok now i know i bet i can get them.. If i can get a komodo dragon for a friend of mine that use to work for a zoo i can get anything lol

    they are very endangered....last I read a few years ago there were an estiimated 1000 to 1500 left in the wild. I am sure you could get one....but get caught with one and your butt will be grass and the feds the lawnmower.....

    Get some CA reds, and breed the ones with the larger spots....sooner or later, you will have the red stripes. With careful selection, it should only take 1000 years.
