    Re: Ribbon snake questions

well this ribbon has to go, it just took me 30 minutes to remove one hide to try and clean the droppings from under it, i feel so bad for this ribbon because i just cannot seem to work with her at all and i know she deserves better then this. if no1 wants her what do you think the chances are of her making it in the wild at this time of year?

i feel like such a moron for not reading up on this type of snake and for being such a "spurr of the moment" kinda guy. i cant even catch her inside the cage to try and remove her.

if someone wants her i can feed her and ship her out TODAY. all i really need to know is how to go about shipping a snake.

heres a pic of her full length

and she was stairing me down this mornin, we had a long talk but she still refuses to work with me at all

    Re: Ribbon snake questions

I'll happily take her. But you can't ship her till Monday. PM me if you want to do it, but definitely get advice from others here on proper packing... I've never shipped a snake, just recieved them, and it scares me to death. She'll need a heat pack but you have to make sure she doesn't get overheated.

Check shipping rates from your zip to mine-- 23185-- Fed Ex overnight for morning delivery...

    Re: Ribbon snake questions

I like my baby ribbons- still have 6- but they are wild as it gets. Good display animals, as Wayne said.
I'd imagine with regular handling they might calm down, but I pretty much just look at mine.

They are still small(but growing well), so all 6 live in a 40 gallon tank together. Eating pinky parts mixed into trout- as much as they can eat, once a week.

See, at least here people can get help without taking it out on the animals. A good group here. I think I may try and get a ribbon or five next summer. Redstripes if I can find them.

That's fine-- I just wanted her taken care of. :-) As long as she is in a good home, it's totally fine. If it doesn't work out, she can always still come here anytime. :-)

    Re: Ribbon snake questions

    glad It worked out
I've always thought it was a good thing that ribbons have that extra length of tail because they're so quick to launch themselves, but I've never met on that bit
I do think if they get used to handling early on, they can be just as mellow as some garters, but I suspect yours was wild caught anyway
ask Shannon though - that baby she got from me is no more skittish than most garters
