Win some, lose some... Never count your snakes before they hatch.

Clear photos would have been nice......

    It's a real shame.

That snake(s) probably will not make it in captivity, especially because 99.9% of people have no idea what a dekays snake even is, let alone how to make it comfortable and secure enough to eat!

Hey i have a question. Do both heads eat & do things for themself? or is it one channel sort of thing? poor snake. I hope it stays healthy. and i wish you good luck in trying to adopt it!! its very cute.

    Re: 2 Headed Dekayi snake

As an educated guess, I would assume that the primary head, the one in line with the spine, has all the eating function, most likely all breathing.

If the nerve pathways were not conjoined at the spine, then for all practical purposes the second head is simply along for the ride.

Without the nerve connection, it becomes irrelevant what the brain is thinking, the signals are not going anywhere without the connection.

I find it hard to grasp a union "forming" where the spinal cord can receive and transmit signals to two separate brains.

Signals like heartbeat and breathing would "short out" one another and the snake would not live long past birth.

As long as oxygenated blood flow is supplied to the second head, it will biologically "survive" but would be sort of an outside observer.

I would love to see better detailed photographs, I'd like to know if both tongues flick.

This species may be found in a variety of moist environments, especially forest floors that have plenty of leave litter. It is not uncommon to find them inhabiting bark mulch around flowerbeds.
