Yeah, it's pretty cool to sit there with a big ol' roach at the table and feed it cucumbers. XD
And the big girls are even better; I've watched TV with them on my shoulder before.

Oh. Because you know, it seems to me that, aside
from being a little mentally ill, she's pretty normal.

They certainly do learn. When I'm doing cleaning/feeding duty by the time I get to their bin all the adults are out waiting for handouts. lol

You make me feel very normal.

But serously, I think your roach hobby is neat. My Dubias are starting to multiply like crazy, finally. I should really expand into a second bin.

    1. Thank you. XD
    2. You could do that, or you could benefit the whole colony in the long run and do a culling after all the nymphs of a certain instar mature; pick the biggest males and females and put them into the other bin. Let them multiply and use the first bin as your feeders. Eventually, after a year's worth of this cycle you'll end up with bulked up feeders that will produce better than what you started with.

Well, it started 2 years ago when I saw some hissers at a science and engineering day I went to for science club. I came home and I remember what my ma said to me when I asked if I could get some: "Ha, roaches? In this house? You know what they say: Them toenails are tough."
    lol
So in January I convinced them to let me get 20 hissers to start breeding my own food, seeing as I was paying around $10 a week for crix. Over the summer they multiplied; then I attended my first reptile show in August and saw some orange head roaches at one of the back tables. I asked my mom if I could get them; she said no. However, by the next show in September I was allowed to purchase my first orange heads and discoid roaches. From here everything snowballed; I was trading out tons of hissers for lobster roaches, giant caves, everything. By October I had gone from 3-4 species to 20.

    1. She's not a fan of the smaller ones but she likes the big ones you can handle. :P
    2. There are over 4000 species of roaches, about 5 of which are serious pests and 5 that are area-dependent pests. :P
