    Todays finds

another trip to nailors run park today around 2 oclock and i caught 5 garters , lost one kinda...just listen, and caught 4 watersnakes and seen 3 getaway.
the garter that got away ......wel my girlfriend spotted him in some shrubs peekin his head out and evrytime i go in for him he goes back under allthe thorn thicket. i waited a good 20 minutes caught another garter snake and decided to let it go ontop of this mess of thorn bushesand see if u can lure whatever else was under tehre out .
sure enough 20 mins later i walk back to the spot and both and there balled up in each other, i left them alone so it was not an official catch, and it was almost like hookin a good friend up with a date in a way .lol
here some snaps of the decent sized watersnakes that i also caught . 3 garters were juvenilles 2 were adults and so was the one that i couldnt get with hand but lured out.

I've always wondered if water snakes go underwater or if they just float like garters.

its funny you mention it , they do kinda swim "in" the water almost like a sea snake , but they can float if they want to as well.

Always makes me wonder why I live in Canada. While the snow is still melting during the day, we are still in the minus at night. It will be weeks before the first garters emerge.

    Jason,

Our daytime temps have been up in the lower-to-mid 30s, and the sun has been causing a lot of snow to melt. Do you call it "break-up" in Canada? Break-up isn't more than about three weeks away. Then I'd be confident enough to have a few more snakes shipped up to me .

In Alberta you never what the weather will be like this time of year. A couple years ago we had a major snow storm about a week after the May long weekend.

Well, if it's any consolation, I live in Belgium
It would be awesome to be looking for them in the wild some day.

If I were you I would take a nice, week long trip here. The only downside is the plane ticket price. Ouch.
