Mites will sometimes require repeat treatments to eliminate really bad infestations.

The eggs are nearly microscopic and up under scale plates, all the treatments recommend re-applying after 3 days to get the "second wave" before they can produce any more eggs.

    Best wishes..

Re: ok just got a albino burm in NEED HELP...

I just went through a big time war with snake mites... and I am rpetty sure that I have nipped them good. But it was VERY frustrating to think I had gotten them off a snake, only to see more of them there the next day. Mites have this uncanny ability to hide up under the snakes scales where no amount of olive oil will penetrate. The only snake that now has a few mites left is my female carpet python. When I got home I checked the cage and sure enough I had missed some the first cleansing. Luckily, the tip of her nose was peeled- it was time to shed!

Shedding is the absolute BEST time to rid your snake of mites. I intantly took her out of her cage and put her in the bathtub. I let it fill with some water and left her in there while I cleaned out her cage, spaying it down with equate lice spray and treating her new substrate and decor with some also. Her waterbowl will be left out overnight tonight so that none of it gets into drinking water. I then wen back upstairs with my giant toothbrush (large brush they make for cleaning dishes and what not) and proceeded to shed my snake. They great thing about this is that when they shed... all of the mites including the ones under their scales will come up because they are on top of the skin coming off. As long as you do it in the water, you can make sure that 1) you get it off all in one peice or as close to that as possible and 2) any mites that might try and hurry up and climb onto the snakes new skin can't do so because the snake is in water and water + mites= death. As I peeled the shed, I pulled the parts of her that had already shed up over the edge of the tub so that her new skin wasn't touching the mite-water. Then she got a quick rub with the towel and back into her cage she goes. If I see a mite in that cage after that, I will be very surprised!

So do not fret, you are doing a wonderful job so far.... and even if you can't 100% eradicate them right away, keep their numbers down as lowww as possible, in small numbers mites are nothing more than really, really, reaaally annoying... and the next shed will be your true chance to nip them permanently

    ***ANOTHER UPDATE***

I thought he was fine came home after going to a car show this is what I find.. I don't want to say it but........... I don't understand it the vet gave him a clean bill of health.. The vet did blood tests and everything that's why he said he was fine..

I haven't been around my other snakes or handled them since I got him just in case and also I have him on the other side of the house since I got him.. Because I quarantine all the new reptiles that come in for up to 6-8 months before putting them in my reptile room.. Here's the video..

    YouTube - Burm Posable IBD

After i posted this the first time.. I've now read that mites can cause this.. NOW this scares me to no end..
    Thanks, ~*Natalie*~

Re: ok just got a albino burm in NEED HELP...

Oh... that doesn't look good... I'm really sorry to see that. Was he doing that before?

It also looks like he may actually be doing that to rub the mites off of his head. I would not say just yet that the snake definately is ill with IBD... because it really looks to me like he is doing that in a desperate attempt to rub mites off of his own head.

    whatever the case.... best wishes!!!!

Re: ok just got a albino burm in NEED HELP...

yeah.... i bet..... he wants to try and get them off himself which is very understandable...... idk....... get a few really cheep things that he can rub on..... it would be some work but you could boil them in a big pot every time you give him a treatment......

but now that i think of it i remember my corns rubing their heads like that when they had mites..... but i left a few of their wood hides in with them so they usually rubbed against those...... the hides were thrown away once the mites were gone.....
