    Re: found new snakeee

For your location, I'm leaning toward a Redbellied Snake. They max out at about 10 inches long and feed on worms, slugs and small salamanders.

Check this link and see what you think. Snakes of North Carolina

Definately not a racer, Sam and take a close look at the worm snake. They don't show any neck at all. The head simply tapers to a point with extremely tiny eyes.

    Re: found new snakeee

He was alot more clam today,so i was able to take better pics
[and you can see just how small he is]

my sister found another one today about the same size/color except his top was lighter

Also, while i was holding him i noticed there was some waterish thing's coming out of his tail? I thought it was musk but this didnt have any odor to it [did it pee o.0]

there was also some coming from the top of his head, but im pretty sure that was just from the water dish

In the first picture where the curve/lump thingy is,that's where he was 'leaking'

And so you can see the colors best

    Re: found new snakeee

that does not look like any red-bellied snake i have ever seen. the tail is too stumpy and the red extends way too far up the snake's sides. Also, is it jsut me or does your snake have very smooth shiny scales? Redbellied snakes have keeled scales.

On a side note, many people call red bellied snakes "red bellied racers", they are not racers at all, but they for some reason are called that by some people.

If you could put the snake on the carpet or something and take a snapshot that is far away enough so that it focuses on the carpet and the snake, it would help immensely!

I will run up to the store to get more battiers for the camera/take the pic you need right now,btw the scales are very smooth and shiny. Also,he has trouble moveing on the cage it's self [had to put some dirt into the cage so he could move, other wise when he tried to slide around it seemed like he couldnt move that well and started to freak out.

[glad to see someone else likes thirdway]

    btw

Does musk have a smell to it?i always thought it was something some snakes put out that was really foul smelling.he puts some type of clear liquid out..but it doesnt have a smell to it.

    Re: found new snakeee

he probably urinated a bit... yea it was a good idea to put some substrate in there, you don't want him jsut sitting on glass, if he has smooth shiny scales, a a flat head, he most likely is a snake that burrows and will spend most of him time underground. where in the US do you live?
