Always take more hugs, Lulu. Thank you so much. I just found out the other day that the man who lived in this house before we bought it was bitten (in the fall no less) by a copperhead right in our front yard!!

Unfortunatly there is nothing you can do to change what happened now but you can make the local, locals aware and also if you move house then let the new owners know because it might have been a different story if he had let you know.

Hey Lori, I'm a member of the San Diego Zoo & get a magazine they publish monthly. This month's mag contained a lengthly article about a wild cat there that was bitten by a rattlesnake. Needless to say the Zoo has their own wildlife hospital onsite & they also stock the most diverse supply of ant-venom in the country. The cat bitten was about the same size as Jewel. They pumped anti-venom thru the cat for 2 days, turning her over every hour for the first 24, then did massive blood transfusions. By day 3 she came around and she did pull through. The description of the wound & effects sounded exactly like Jewels, though I suspect Jewel did not get the full dose of venom as this cat did. Without access to anti-venom and a dedicated full time staff knowledgeable about such rarities it sounds grim ... Amazing that Jewel had the spirit within to hang in with not too much else ...

    Best Wishes,
    marian

Wow. I'm so glad the cat made it. Yes, one thing Jewel had was a strong spirit. We went for a really long woods walk this weekend with all the dogs (and several goats and the turkeys trailing behind, lol) and I could feel her so strongly... she loooooved our woods walks. What a girl she was.
