If animals aren't supposed to be eaten, then why are they made out of meat?

I used to have a MEAT IS DEAD bumpersticker (when I had a car) and for some odd reason people used to ask me whether I was a vegetarian
generally I'd point out to them that, for the most part, this is true for carnivores as well
on one of my more gritty days, I did once reply
"no - I like mine that way"
nothing like raising people's consciousness a little . . .

that meat is dead
very few carnivorous humans eat their meat while it's alive
in fact a friend of mine proposed that all the meat in the markets should be labeled "pre-killed"
