Isn't it funny to see all the little personality quirks these guys have?? I've had a lot of people (not snake fans obviously) ask me "So, why would you want a snake for a pet, what do they do?" Wish they could read stuff like this, then maybe they'd get it!!!!

I agree completely, but we need to understand that most people are afraid of snakes and that will automatically generate that kind of response. I usually try to give an answer like: "They sing The Sound Of Silence every full moon".

One maybe less obvious problem is that we still use the word "pet" to describe them. People place snakes (well, herps, arthropods and molluscs really) in the same category as dogs, cats and guinea pigs when they try to deal with the notion of keeping an exotic animal.

People become afraid of snakes they are learning it while growing up.
When I visit a kindergarden with my snakes the small children are very interessted (when they are not afraid of me strange foreign man).
Only the older children sometimes don´t like looking and touching the snakes, saying: "No, not to me, my Mami doesn´t like it!"
For that we are no more telling it to the parents before my visit to let the children get their own experiences.

I always thought that fear of snakes is learned, but I am no longer sure about that
a couple of weeks ago I had a friend of Mikhaila's over, who's got a little sister (5 or so)
the parents are not afraid of snakes - find them interesting
the brother thinks they're cool
I picked out a mellow baby as the least threatening because the little girl wanted to try holding a snake although she was afraid
the moment she touched the little snake, she completely freaked, screeching and crying - something about the way it felt, I guess
I don't get it, but I do think that for some people it's some deep fear that has nothing to do with anything real

I have a completely irrational issue with spiders... and I can't figure it out, there is absolutely no other critter (except a few humans, lol) that scare me, but my first repsonse to spiders is AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

LOL! I can overcome it when I put my mind to it tho. You guys were posting spider pics a while ago and it was SO creeping me out. LOL

One of my ´parietalis breeders is so lazy and bored on feeding.
She open her mouth and let me push smelts and pinkies into it.
When I stop she´s just wainting. When I´m to lazy too it takes ten minutes for one fish.

Oh now that's funny. What a rough life... I should be able to lie on the sofa all day and be fed... by big, strapping, handsome young men... in loin cloths... oh wait, what were we talking about????

I had a mystery snail, Stanley, that would float upside down in the tank and I would drop tiny pieces of fruit and veggies into his mouth. Well, more like in the general vicinity of where I percieved a snail mouth to be. He was pretty lazy too. lol

I hear ya!!! I don't know what it is about them- they just look like something that one ought to be afraid of! As a kid, I spent all my summers up north in the woods, spiders everywhere- you think i'd be used to them but nothing sends me over the edge faster!
