is there any truth in this?: Female T.s are more easy to handle and act more relaxed than male snakes.

Generally, yes. I have met some spirited females, but for the most part, the females are more relaxed, and males tend to be squirmy. (With exceptions of course)

Females also seem to calm more after having bore a litter. Males are definitely more active and fast moving. However they are all individuals with their own dispositions and temperaments. Welcome to the forum.

A female T. radix is like a good calm dog. Male T. radix are more hands off attitude. I must say in my life I've had 2 males that were easy going and liked interactions. I miss you both, Scar and Krinkleback.

All my radix males are as calm as the females. Cant say the same for sirtalis. Sirtalis Males are straight up crazy! Infernalis being the craziest of them all.

Meanwhile I've had the opposite experience, my male sirtalis are the calmest snakes I have ever owned and my female radix are spazzes. Goes to show they all have their own personalities, another reason why garters are awesome.

However I share your experience with Infernalis, they were the muskiest/bitiest garters I've owned.

Some interesting reading in these answers indeed. I hope more ppl have experiences o share on the matter. Myself i have a little infernalis (4 months old). He's a bit jumpy, but alot better now compared to when i got him 2 months ago. Calm is not the right word for him yet though. Planning on getting a female, will be intresting to compare!

I have 2 adult female Florida blues that are out of their minds!!!

I have a juvenile female radix and an adult male checkered garter. The radix is extremely docile, the checkered can be a bit of a spazz.
