the brown water was from the log I put in the water, it eventually cleared up and didn't turn brown anymore after a few weeks. the wood was brand new
I cleaned it every 3 to 4 days

my pond turtle tank is forever tea colored, a very light tea tinged color but still lol, its from the driftwood i used.
