sorry, im letting most of them go. i am the one providing food, so they arent hunting as if they were in the wild, how long can i keep them for before releasing them without them losing how to search for their own food? is that better? lol idk how to explain it any other way.

They will never lose the instinct to hunt for food.
The larger they are when you release them the better is their chance for survival. You must also give them an opportunity to locate a brumation site, water and food locations before winter arrives. I would think a few meals is a good start then nature can take over.
