The Aphrodite and Dracarys - Thread

    Hello everyone,

so, after surprisingly quickly becoming a "mother of two" , I thought I might use a new thread for my girls for updates and questions as I have seen some of you did that, too.

I already introduced Aphrodite, my one year old tiny TSS flame, who I got a few weeks ago and who is (with one exception) doing amazingly well in her new enclosure that I also already showed you. (More about her below..)

And then, a week ago, the breeder who I have been in contact with (who had a big litter of 35 TS infernalis two months ago) unexpectedly announced he would be in my town so I can pick a girl. So, last wednesday I brought home the (in my... objective view of course ) most beautiful Infernalis you could imagine.
I called her Dracarys, and she is a bit special. Made me appreciate and become aware of the calmness Aphrodite shows.
Dracarys is a bit jumpy (which seems to be common in young infernalis), she doesn't move as much but has phases of sudden activities and I would guess different characters also behave differently.
However, I am very positive she will turn out nicely and calm down a bit.

That much about the new girl (who will stay in the smaller enclosure for two months and then move in with Aphrodite).

Now back to my little darling Aphrodite. What you will also see in the photos below is a close up of her mouth. I seem to be dealing with a minor case of mouth rot/ an infection there. It looks much better since after she shed and I am not too worried for now. I read a few threads on cases like that and started treating her with daily (except on feeding day) treatments with Q-tips and Betaisodona (the German brand for povidon iodine). I also took a look into her mouth (poor girl, her head is so tiny ) but I didn't see anything suspicious and also didn't want to stress her out too much.

She doesn't like the treatments, but like I said, she is the nicest lady and doesn't show any aggressive behavior. Brave girl.

Any comments, especially on the little patient, are highly appreciated. I think I will monitor it and go to the vet only if I see no improvement over a longer time span or if it gets worse..

How long do you think would it take to see if it gets better? Days? Weeks? Months?

I wouldn't call it mouth rot, it is just a very minor lip infection. Mouth rot would be a life threatening situation requiring a vet. to intervene. It may not be anything but a miss-aligned lip. I would watch it to make sure it doesn't get any worse.

Do you have any of this or equivalent over there?

    Thank you Steve once again,

I already thought it was a very minor infection, but I didn't exactly know about the mouth rot being that severe, so thank you for clearing that up.
Should I still treat her with the iodine?

That has to be your call. You might want to consult with a vet over the phone(if they will do that) Maybe you can send them the photo.
