Just as a side note, if you use oil to get the remaining adhesive off, make sure it is thoroughly washed off afterward and none is left between the scales or anything. I had to use oil to help a snake with a bad skin condition shed a month or two ago, and places where the oil did not get completely removed became really raw and irritated after about a day. If you're only using it on a small area, this might not be too much of an issue though.

Half an inch of dorsal skin doesn't sound to bad. Last year I had a couple of open wounds when my radix reacted to an antibiotic injection. Hers were about half an inch by an eighth. I treated her with an antibiotic barrier ointment, kept her clean and dry. It took about 3 sheds before the skin healed and didn't come away at the next shed.

Could be stress from the situation, internal injuries from the situation or a combination of both.
