13 month hunger strike finally over!

One of my adult female vagrans started refusing any and all food over a year ago. She has always eaten f/t rat pinks until that point. I tried everything I could think of but she showed zero interest in food. I was extremely worried but i continued to try every week or so until a couple weeks ago when I was feeding her neighbor and noticed she was following me with her head. I offered her a tiny f/t mouse pink and she inhaled it so I have been feeding her small meals every 3-4 days since then without any refusals. She looks significantly better even in this short time. Sometimes I wish I could know what my snakes are thinking so I could avoid this sort of thing. I still have no idea what caused her hunger strike.

Glad she's among the eaters again. I think the small steady meals is a good way to approach her rehab.

That's an awfully long time for Thamnophis not to feed. Good to hear she's back on track!

Wow, that was an enormous fast!!! I would have been adding to the grey hair count after the first couple of months. What a marathon!

Does a fast as long as that cause any physical damage? Just curious. Oh and happy that she's eating again also.

I could see organ shutdown as a potential threat but then again these snakes are survivors. 12 months seems a very long time.

She got pretty thin but never really looked like I would expect a snake to look after that long without eating. She was very active for most of the time. I was pretty skeptical about brumating her this year but I took the chance hoping that it would trigger a feeding response when I warmed her back up. Either way I'm happy she's back on track.
