OK, thanks all, I have cleaned everything thoroughly just in case, all the others seem as feisty as ever so hopefully its just a one off. Thats the only drawback with garters, because of their size, illness seems to be quick!

I tend to think that most of the time it's not quick at all. It's just that they can't tell you when they're not feeling well and by the time you notice something is wrong, they're already extremely ill (and have been for some time) or dying.
R.I.'s are a good example. By the time we see any symptoms it's usually late stage/critical.
