"This picture was taken in someones backyard pond. They affectionately named the snake "Hissing Sid" and seem very tolerant of the fact that this snake dined on their goldfish. They compared it to humans putting birdseed in feeders for birds, instead this is fish for watersnakes."

Actually, it doesn't block anything. It simply destroys the thiamine molecule by breaking it down into pieces. That's what any enzyme does. What's particularly bad about it is that one thiaminase molecule can destroy a B1 molecule, and move onto the next and do the same thing, over and over, and so on, destroying thousands of B1 molecules. This is why increasing B1 intake through supplementing, does no good if you're still feeding your snake thiaminase.

That's a great pic of the snake and the fish! I don't think he had any luck with that though...lol. So...my clinicals start Monday. I saw my clinical schedule and got exhausted just looking at it. It will be a very interesting two years. I think there is a nursing shortage because many nurses croak from exhaustion or burn out during clinicals .

My son has been sick all week....not the flu...but a flu related virus. Because he has asthma, every virus goes straight to his lungs and he gets a cough in which he cannot stop coughing...literally. We have to give him three kinds of cough meds and two different nebulizer treatments. I think I have slept maybe 6 hours the whole week. The kid has missed so much school this year...and he has been so sick that he has yet to get a flu shot...which scares the heck out of me with the flu epidemic. Now he has to wait another week before he can get a shot...and go back to school with the flu going around. With his lung problems, the idea of him getting the flu scares me to death. 20 children have already died of it.
