They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.

    Male and male....

If you could get less blurry ones, it would help

I'd say male for both as well.

Steve, they are yearlings so I'd gather they are about a year old.

    Re: Sexing help

Lol....I think they both look male too...but I wasn't positive about the second one. I don't actually know the age as I found them in my basement...but by the size, I am guessing around a year old...they could be older if they are male...but I think Seeley was a bit bigger at a year. Sorry about the blurry pics...I will try to get some more when I can get my son to hold still for two minutes to take some photos!

    Re: Sexing help

if you can, set up the camera on a counter or table that way all he has to do is push the button. That way there is no hand movement. All you have to do is hold up your biting n musking buddies lol

He's usually pretty good with the camera...but he wasn't feeling well yesterday. Might give my hand a rest before I try pics again though...lol.

    Re: Sexing help

I think both males, too. For what it's worth, I find that looking at the side of the tail makes sexing easier than looking at the underside of the tail. Male tails have a slow taper, so the tail is about half as high as the base at the midpoint between base and tip. Female tails have a fast taper, so the tail is about half as high as the base about a quarter of the way back from the tail base. That works for me with the local plains garters and red sided garters.

Could anyone post some side pics so that I can see this?

    Re: Sexing help

I've been sexing snakes using side view for decades. But I've never taken any pictures. And I do not have the snakes to photograph at this time. Perhaps someone else can do it.
