Checkered Breeding
I just recently got a baby checkered garter snake for one of my clients. I am holding on to it until they are ready. I have fell in love with this little guy and was thinking about breeding them. How do you breed checkereds? Is it the same thing as sirtalis? Fast, brumate, breed? Or is it different?

Re: Checkered Breeding
I don't think breeding for T.marcianus is any different then most garters.
Not sure what you mean by fast brumation.

I'm not saying fast brumation, I'm saying that I fast them, as in I don't feed them before I brumate them.

I misunderstood your statement. I apologize.

Re: Checkered Breeding
You must fast any snake regardless of species before you put them in brumation or cooling, Checkereds are found in certain southern states so their brumation temps don't need to go as low as northern species.

Re: Checkered Breeding
Ok, I want to start breeding them, i just need to find a breeding pair and more importantly, space for a breeding pair! If you are or know anyone who is selling Breeding Size Albino/Normal Checkered Garters please let me know. I only want Albino or Normal though.

That's really big for a male! I've heard of some females getting to be 1 meter, but never any males.

Re: Checkered Breeding
My two females are both approaching 3 feet. Keep in mind, one is two and the other is three years old. They breed young and easily. I have produced three litters without ever brumating.
