In my experience, guppies can survive in a jar of water for a long time as long as you change the water every few days, I've even had them breed in conditions like that. But they will thrive in a proper tank with a filter and bubbler.

*Tank Update*

I just put Tank (Chelydra serpentina-common snapping turtle) on the scale and he is now over 18 lbs. 18.21 pounds on an empty stomach. Wow. Tanks growth rate is phenomenal. This kind of weight is usually seen in turtles 10 years old. Tank just turned 4. Carapace length is right in line with his weight so all is good.

They said at Petco if you change the water every week, they will be ok, and that they don't produce alot of waste. But aslo this was Petco......It sounds like it might just be easier to get the filter, even if that is the case, and I'll go ahead and get an air thing.

Look on the bright side, if you get a couple more adults you can start breeding them and produce free feeders for your garters!

Let me tell you about this so-called spoiled turtle. He only had a 6 oz steak and only 8 med. shrimp for dinner. Poor starved turtle.
