Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol on human breast cancer :

It has been recently shown that cannabinoids, the active components of marijuana and their derivatives, inhibit cell cycle progression of human breast cancer cells. Here we studied the mechanism of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) antiproliferative action in these cells, and show that it involves the modulation of JunD, a member of the AP-1 transcription factor family.

THC activates JunD both by upregulating gene expression and by translocating the protein to the nuclear compartment, and these events are accompanied by a decrease in cell proliferation. Of interest, neither JunD activation nor proliferation inhibition was observed in human non-tumour mammary epithelial cells exposed to THC. We confirmed the importance of JunD in THC action by RNA interference and genetic ablation.

Thus, in both JunD-silenced human breast cancer cells and JunD knockout mice-derived immortalized fibroblasts, the antiproliferative effect exerted by THC was significantly diminished. Gene array and siRNA experiments support that the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p27 and the tumour suppressor gene testin are candidate JunD targets in cannabinoid action.

In addition, our data suggest that the stress-regulated protein p8 participates in THC antiproliferative action in a JunD-independent manner. In summary, this is the first report showing not only that cannabinoids regulate JunD but, more generally, that JunD activation reduces the proliferation of cancer cells, which points to a new target to inhibit breast cancer progression.

Let us not forget the consequences that come from the use of marijuana. I think it's great that medicine is finding a valuable use for it but it does come at a cost.
Marijuana is additive and it can lead to other drug use. Most dope smokers are also using other drugs, legal or not.
This drug comes with an economic/productivity price to this country.
I don't want to here about the responsible marijuana smoker who follow all the rules and only smoke at home, never before driving and never before work or dealing with family situation or interacting with other. It's a load of crap.
Marijuana does affect the user's ability to function as they would normally. Reminds me of the beer company warning, "Know when to say when"
How are you suppose to say "no" when the substance you are using affects your ability to know when. How about this one "Think when you drink"
It's a joke played so many.
I've dealt with good people using marijuana. Those good people still made bad decision while using. This isn't some innocent drug. I'm sure they felt bad for the things/situations they were in but the fact is the drug had a direct effect on what happened. Good people wouldn't do the things they did right? must have been something else.
Said the frog to the scorpion "Why did you sting me? now we're both going to die" and the scorpion replied "I'm a scorpion it's what we do"
I'm not trying to rain on your parade Richard but there are two sides to everything and I for one think the legalization was wrong.
I hope they continue to find good uses for marijuana and I hope it helps many but the facts are it will hurt many also.
Another legal, recreational drug isn't what this country needs. I hate to say it but this legalization trend will probably continue and this countries slide will continue also.

"it's a load of crap" is what I was referring to. You're right. Both prior statements are load of crap. Any place, any time it's been legalized or not enforced, use of other drugs went down, not up. Everyone I know that smokes it, has no problem saying no at times when it's not appropriate, or if they need to abstain for a month to pass a UA. If that's addiction, I'll take it. Also, I know perhaps two dozen people that smoke it, and the do not do other drugs. The "gateway" theory is just another lie.

If anything, it helped me get off other drugs. Furthermore, it's been over a month since I had any, and I don't care. It doesn't bother me one bit because it's not addictive. I can take it or leave it.

I for one think this thread and this forum isn't the place to debate this but I won't sit idly by while you promote your pro-drug point of view.

Not "pro-drug" just pro legalization, and just for weed. and post 12632 had nothing to do with my point of view. But if you're going to get all bent out of shape about it we can just change the subject.
