The only thing holding social order together and keeping people from just doing whatever the hell they want, is money, which in itself is an illusion.

The only thing that's ever held social order together, is the consensus of the members to hold it together.

Apparently Governments just shut right the hell down without money. Without money, police quit patrolling the streets. Without money, fire stations close down, without money, you get what happened to the poorest parts of Detroit. No police, no fire... they just let it burn. You're on your own. and you get the very fabric of social order falling apart at the seams, like what's happening in Greece.

You can't knock over a system and expect there to be no problems, but that's temporary. Where governments fall and police and fire departments cease to function, the people eventually take over. Which segment does it, is a different matter. It could be responsible members of society, it could be a single family or a clan (where those exist), or it could be gangs. The transition is unavoidable. When the cops disappear, armed citizens start patrolling. We still have volunteer fire departments all over the country, in virtually every town, because the distances are at times significant. Anarchy is not viable for the simple reason that there is always someone who's willing to either assume a leadership role, or grab power and there are always people who are willing to organize for the common good. Greece? Greece is going to topple its government and install a new one. Whether it's better or worse, is immaterial. Order will be restored immediately.

Money/monetary systems will fail and with it Governments will fall.

And new ones will rise in their place. That's how it's always been.

But I don't have to tell you what happens when the system breaks down. We've already witnessed what happens if you watch world news at all.

Crap flies around for a while and then things settle down and are reorganized.

I don't like seeing the world getting one step closer to the big "A" anymore than you do, but it's happening.

It's not happening.

I'm going to change the subject. My son has been making me watch crazy movies all week. Swamp Shark...a shark that jumps out of the water and eats people, Two-Headed Shark..a shark big enough to eat a couple of boats, at the same time...and Anaconda...in which it tells you in the beginning of the movie that many anacondas get to be over 40 feet long. Now, I looked that up...the biggest actually recorded anaconda was 25 feet...they have no documentation proving the existance of larger ones, although people have claimed to see 150 foot anacondas. Retics are bigger...and I think the biggest one, Fluffy, is 24 feet.

Well Looks like I get a long weekend, took today off so I could stay home n keep the house warm.... Seeing as half our power is out. It's really odd, no breakers are tripped (and I have reset everyone of them just in case) but half our house is powerless. Twitch, George and Flames are in the no power area so to keep temps up I'm home keeping the fire going.

A friend of ours is an electrician and will be stopping by when he can to see what on earth is going on.
This places power is so very weird... Last winter it seemed like we blew a breaker for the barn lights n plugs but there wasn't one tripped in any of the panels. (This house has three breaker panels) Now same kinda thing, missing power with no idea why.

The point is, what happens in the mean time.

My main point is Steve's stance that "money isn't everything". Of course it isn't, but without it, we already know what happens. WA has shut down it's Govt. before due to lack of funds. It just floors me how many people are against paying more/higher taxes, then protest when services get cut. So, do we embrace and tax this already existing industry or do we embrace the reality of governments shutting down? There's really no other choices. It's one or the other. If someone else knows of a billion dollar industry besides marijuana that they would like to legalize, or have a better idea where we can save that much money and take in that much, speak up because I'd like to know what it is.

Sounds like one of your power legs is off. Most modern day homes have at least two wires coming in that are separate legs (so you can have 220-240 and more outlets) This happens when a main breaker is bad or a wire outside is broken

Sounds like one of your power legs is off. Most modern day homes have at least two wires coming in that are separate legs (so you can have 220-240 and more outlets) This happens when a main breaker is bad or a wire outside is broken

lol This place is no where near modern. I also am far far away from any hurricane reach, protected by mountains on the west n miles n miles of prairies to the east, Alberta Canada baby!

Our friend fixed it, it was a really old plug that had shorted inside simply ending the circuit without tripping breakers :P
