    Re: More from the backyard...

    hey,

....and it's still raining!,average rainfall for this area is around 4 1/2 ",we've gone way past double, with 2" expected today, and high chance of rain for most of the week, ground is so wet, that it squishes when you walk on it,and you can see the water coming out of the ground when stepped on,with temps bottoming out 15 below normal average, this past weekend,no snakes, they've run to high ground(smart ones),even the Nascar race in Michigan got rained out, otherwise not much happened this weekend, fed the snakes, watching my baby bearded dragon slowly die,and not a dam thing i can do about it,we've tried everything, and he was doing so good, growing aleast 1/2" a week,it'll be a tuff loss, man, these baby beardie's are tuff to keep, their so fragile.

I'm so sorry about your beardie
it's true - they take a ton of care and even then it's iffy

    Re: More from the backyard...

    hey,
My little guys still hanging in their, giving him warm,90/95 ,bath for 20/30 min. acouple times aday.it horrible to watch, back arches up,starts shaking, mouth opens, falls over on to his side, and goes limp, back legs seam parallelized, tuff, taking care of these, snakes are so much easier ,and even more easier today, than when I started ,back in the 70's,when snakes where just showing up at the shops, and they where all wild caught,75% of bought snakes then died within a couple months.

unless something big happens here,I can't see my little guy living much more than a few days,Vets won't look at him, ether they have very little knowledge in them,or he's to little to work on! I can see why so many people lose these little beardie's ,and I've got decent experience with them and reptiles in general.so much is needed ,when acquiring a beardie, not only space, but critical heat temps that are needed, substrate material.wrong veggie's will hurt or kill them, wrong size crickets, will do harm and even death. The wife took our big guy outside in early July,he was almost full grown, grabbed onto one lousy light bug,he was dead with in two hours!she took that loss, real hard.
when we go to the meets and see breeder's selling their 6/7 month old beardie's (10-14")for 60.00/80.00,it's well worth that price, getting them past that horrible baby stage.I wonder just what is the average loss of these little beardie's are,it's got be high.well,I got to soak him some warm water again.

    hey,
After the wife's big guy died from the light bug,we went to the next show(always buy direct from a breeder,if possible),the wife picked out a 5" baby, female sandfire, mine was a 4 1/2" male, nothing fancy.I like the patterns down his back, from day one their appetite, was hugh, eating 15 -1/4" crickets a day, they where growing at least 1/2" a week, which is real good!the wife's beardie was chasing some crickets,on top of the driftwood,my little guy was scooting across the reptile carpet.her little one, knocked off a piece of bark!about 1/4"-3/8",my guy just didn't taste it first,he ate it!!that's huge for a little guy,and it wasn't just a smooth piece ether,it had a twisted shape to it,(we haven't a clue where it came from,we thought it was safe, smooth piece of driftwood), i fear that it's lodged in his intestine's.I 'am at a loss on this one.bummer.
