Leaf litter

I was thinking about using leaf litter with my marcianus.But I don't know how I could treat it to get rid of the insects,bacteria and fungus that might be living in it.Also do you guys think it is a suitable substrate for garters?

Cookie sheet in the oven. 250° for 20 minutes. That's the temp I use for wood or rock items. Not sure but it might be too high for leaves. Might be best to lower it and monitor it while in the oven.
Just an idea.

I think treated it's fine to use as an addition to substrate. I do think it would trap and hold moister/feces and make it hard to spot clean.

You're probably looking for something quicker, but I usually freeze leaves for several weeks because I'm afraid to put them in the oven (my millipede eats dead oak leaves). Never had any issues with unwanted creepy crawlies or fungus or anything in their tank.

I do the oven or throw it in the microwave. Wet it down before baking it at 250 degrees. Remove it when dry.

I love leaf litter! Adds such a natural touch to paper towels or newspaper. I dont use it with my garters but Im sure they would love it. The pythons and boas sure do!
