Steve, can Tank submerge his entire shell in the water you provide?

Okay, just curious. Panzer can climb out of her current setup but not back in, so I bought one of those 10 gallon rubbermaid roughneck containers and I'm going to notch it so she can get in and out as she wishes. How important is water for the shell, do you know?

    I think it's natural but I don't think necessary.
You might want to put a piece of hose on the bottom of that notch.
That way the plastron is protected when Panzer goes in and out.

Not by the tail. It can cause the tail to separate from the spine.

It's not just the mouth you have to worry about but the claws. They are sharp and powerful.
If a towel of some other item is available cover the turtle. This will allow you to pick it up from the side of the shell for the most part.
Reaching right above the head on the top of the shell is a fairly safe location to grab. Then grab with an open hand between the tail and one of the back legs.
This should allow you to lift the turtle and move it somewhere safe. This all dependent on whether the turtle will cooperate to some degree. They are scared and defensive and usually hard to handle.
    Hope this helps.

Thank you guys! I plan on starting "hot training" in college with some aggressive non-venoms, as i am interested in rattlesnakes. Im from the west, and i used to walk to a nearby "rattlesnake museum" near my neighborhood. It was basically a guys fantastic herp collection, and i was in love! To think that living near reptiles when i was seven inspired my future obsessions and career path!

I just came across these pics of my old dog Bertie. She passed in Nov. 2007, but she was my firt doggie! I had her from the age of 6-17(I was....not the dog) She was such a sweet little lap dog...complete opposite of Tippy

The first one is her winking It was cool, she would do that alot. And alot of the times she would do it at random "opportune" times, like she was in on what was going on
