Edit: Josephene has a good yellow color but it was washed out by the camera flash.

    No food for 3 months

I know this isn't about a Garter, but at this point I don't know where else to turn. I have a Cornsnake, Maze, who hasn't eaten in 3 months. He stopped eating around springtime. He is extremely active, though the last few days he's been staying in his heated hide. He hasn't lost any substantial weight, though he is a bit slimmer. No signs of RI, anything. I've tried offering him food, but as soon as he gets close to it he just slithers away as fast as he can or completely ignores it. I'm going to try giving him a mouse with the brain exposed, I heard somewhere that snakes go crazy for that?
Again, I know this site is strictly Garters, but I can't find ANY reliable sources and I know some members here have other snakes than just Garters and may know something.
Please help, I'm starting to get concerned for my Mazey.

I have juvenile corn snakes and braining definitely works, to brain a pinkie/fuzzy I would take a paper clip straightened it out and pierce the skull a couple of times while frozen, then after it has thawed i would squeeze the skull so that some brain ooze would drip out of the skull and then place it in my corns hide. Corns are nocturnal so you should try feeding at night.

How old is Maze? Sounds to me like he might have his mind on other things (breeding season if he's old enough). As long as he's not losing weight don't get too worried. Braining can work for sure and as "Invisible Snake" said try at night & leave the food in and check in the morning. Some folks insist on watching them eat but some snakes just like a little privacy while they dine.

Don't worry...that is why we have this thread for non-garter pets...so you are actually in the right place for your question. Unfortunately, I don't know much about snakes other than garters...so I hope other members can help you.

    Charis...that is a gorgeous hog! I have been wanting a hog...if I find one of those...I'm sold.

Steve...I'm sure no animal in your house is ever spoiled!

Love the alligator lizard...it really does look like a little baby gator. Very cool.

No-Feet my rough green died last night. He had a bad case of mites and I never noticed it before. Rough greens don't like to be handled so I hardly ever did. He spent much of his time burrowed and I never saw the black bugs of all sizes crawling all over him. We suspect that No-Feet was infested when I got him and that the mites were so tiny or just eggs that I never noticed before. Plus this is the first time ever that I've dealt with snake mites. I do believe that the gray lineage and marking on his body was a sign of the mites since they seemed to favor those spots. I did notice that the grey had been turning black but I never saw the mites! Makes me so mad and hurt that I've lost another snake. And I bought No-Feet from the same company as Bobbie. I'm going to be keeping a very close eye on Raven since he was the closest snake that the mites could travel to next.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
Mites are a serious issue. You should treat all your reptiles immediately.

    Poor snake.

Don't wait to see something. Your collection is infested. It's the only safe attitude to take.
Newborn mites cannot be seen. By the time you start finding them in a water dish or on the snake it a serious issue.

Don't wait another day. You must be proactive with this issue.
