Turtle Grass

Question about something I came across at the pet store. So I know garter snakes like taller grass to move around in when in the wild. In the reptile area of the pet store I found a product in with the turtle things called turtle grass. Looked basically like tall grass due for a cut with the mower. Is this anything anyone has ever used for their snakes? It was made of plastic so I figured it couldn't be any harder to clean then any other fake plant. It was big enough square that you would have to place it in a 20 gallon tank or better. Don't recall manufacture name but sure if you google turtle grass something similiar can be found to view photo.

I would imagine that if you put into a water basin it would encourage some natural behavior.

I wasn't even thinking in terms of that, just placing it on the floor of the tank as ground cover to mimic grass in the yard. Minus lawn mowers.

I buy a tall looking plastic grass at Hobby Lobby and use it in my enclosures. Snakes seem to like it.

I have used fake grass mat type things and my garters seem to love them. They sit within the blades of grass. Never tried it in the water though. It would be cool to see how the snakes would react.

Hobby Lobby is freakin awesome! I might be getting a job there in a few months... Assuming I'm still sane enough without constant therapy...

I want to get some of their silk flowers for the snakies... I think they'd like them. But it'd cost a lot replacing them... Unless I worked there.....

I have been trying to come up with a good way to do a planted enclosure. if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them. Best I have come up with is plant in easily removeable (and cleanable) containers.

Live planets bring in a wide host of issues that seem unnecessary when plastic will do a much better job minus the risks.

Bringing in unwanted visitors via the soil.
Live plants are much more difficult to clean.
Too much humidity
Snakes in contact with damp soil (Blister Disease)

Just my thoughts.

I would use them but I just don't know where to get live planets.

I was thinking a desert environment. don't think I'd want to try a damp one. well I did do a damp one once with a slaamander. It had woodland (ferns, may flowers moss etc) on one side, a "pebble beach" and a water side at the other end. But don't think I'd want to try such a wet one for a reptile. desert, well it would be nice to have some cati in with the desert collared lizzards.
