I think some members do, the only thing to worry about is the possibility of pesticides and what-not(other chemicals and things) in the area where they came from.

Welcome, I work in Edmonton and I know the city uses pesticides in areas... I just buy a tub of worms from either 'the fishing hole' or Canadian Tire. Just note that Can Tire sells smaller night crawlers as 'trout worms' sometimes the big night crawlers are labeled as jumbo dew worms. I always open them up n look at the worms first. They keep really well in the fridge, just make sure they don't get frozen. Where did you get your Checkered? Big Als?

If it a young (under a year old) you could probably fed some worms 3 times a week. Just don't stuff him at each meal.

If he's knew he may just be a little skittish, and some may always want to be hidden. I've had mine (he's a ribbon) for almost 2 months and he mostly stays in his hide with his head out. Not sure if he'll always be that way(as I've read ribbons can be kind of skittish) or if he's just getting used to everything. But all of them have their own personalities. Time will tell, and I wouldn't think there is anything wrong with him doing that.(Except the fact you can't see him as much)
