Cee Cee had one live baby this morning. It's the tiniest thing I have ever seen. How small are baby garters supposed to be when they are born? It seems okay right now. I put it in a separate tank on paper towels. She doesn't seem to be delivering anything else though....she is still restless. Could she have just one baby? The baby is so small I am not getting my hopes up at this point...I'll just have to see how he/she does. It's the cutest little thing I've ever seen though!

Oh...and I know nothing about taking care of babies. I put a heat lamp on one side of the tank...am I supposed to do that with babies? And when should I try to feed him...and how often should I feed him? Is there anything else I should know about caring for him or more babies if she should have more?

It could take a while. Give her some time. Maybe someone else with a bit more experience can chime in.

I've read in a book that you should feed them after their first shed, which will happen in about 7-10 days. A great first meal would be live guppies because the baby snake will get excited by the smell and movement of the guppies.

    Re: Marnie's Snakes

Oh...and btw..when I say tiny...this baby is only about two inches long tops and it's head is not much bigger than Cee Cee's eye. The worst thing is that I have to leave for a couple of hours...I will let you guys know what's going on when I get back.

At this point, a guppy is bigger than this baby.

Haha, you're so funny, Marnie! You are indeed a nervous mother! That looks completely normal to me.
