    Re: position

I put mine directly on the glass bottom of the viv, obviously above the mat, with the mat stuck to the outside of the glass. This is in an ExoTerra viv and works well for us, there may be better options if you have a wooden viv.

Sounds about right. I embed mine in the substrate, but then have the thermometer probe on top of the substrate.

Don't trust the temp markings on the dial of the thermostat, it's not necessarily accurate. Not far out on a Habistat stat that I use, but I wouldn't rely on it as the sole temperature indicator.

Yes..I have noticed a few degrees of difference between the temp readings on my thermostat dials and on my thermometers. I really want to get one of those infrared gun thermometers soon.

Ok peeps' thanx for the help, again the reason I love this site, any way thought I would show the lay-out

First up I picked up a couple of MC stats

    A couple of timers

Got a basic thermometer for ambient temp

    How it all comes together

I was going to put Martha in a RUB......but it was a cases of good news/bad news......
The Bad news is the RUB overhangs the shelf by 6/7 inches, and wifey is worried one of the kids might knock it off.
The Good news is wifey says it's alright if I get more snakes, and so build a custom set of shelves big enough to house RUBs ,.............So tomorrow I am off to get some plywood and goodies for a bit of DIY

The stat gives you the peace of mind that the temperature will never get too high.
