    Or that could be too precise for some shops, I expect some would just label them as "snakes".... grrrr.

    I can't give a better guess than anyone else had from the pics, but I stand by my statement that I like the head colour of the one in front. The rusty top and whitish jaw line looks good.

    Stefan has it.... eastern and a ribbon. I have seen easterns with that type of pattern....I have a young one from last year witht he bars on the neck, almost looks like a Chicago garter!

    I have only seen pics of them from states far north of here...all of the easterns around here are more of a tan or lighter brown with dark brown checkering patterns under the dorsal stripe, or a spotted pattern...or they can also be a greenish color. Also, most of the literature you find on easterns describes the checkering when discussing IDing them...that and the three stripes, and the 7 supralabials. Another thing that threw me off was the top of the head. There is no pattern on the top of the head in the eastern in that pic...now, maybe I can't see it... my easterns have a pattern on the top of the head. I guess I am going to have to go to a northern state at some point and go herping for easterns.
