Okay...I have no idea what stfu and gtfo means...I think it takes me longer to text abbreviations because I have to think about what the heck I'm typing for the abbreviation! And hey Mike...having a little signature schizophrenia are we? Lol...

Jesse...stop making the old people think! I'm going to need some gingko biloba or something so that I can function on this forum.

STFU means shut the f up and GTFU means get the f out. They're a little vulgar aren't they?

That's because abbreviations like those don't have a place in civilised, grown-up conversation. They're just another way to circumvent the forum's profanity filters.

Agreed, hence they shouldn't be used on forum.

I don't want to come over as some old git with a downer on the youth of today (I am, but that's not the point in hand ), however surely we want to keep the forum as a fun, but grown-up, place to converse - as opposed to lowering it to text-talk, abbbreviations and teenage profanity? The youngsters who stop by the forum can make positive contributions but let's not kid ourselves, the wealth of knowledge is held in the heads of the older members and if we dumb down the conversations we will loose more valued contributers (I could name at least one person who made positive contributions who isn't posting anymore).

Just my two-pennies worth, which is not to thinly veiled as being targetted at Jesse in particular.

    Re: Jesse's garter snakes

Well said Chris. I think it is important to keep profanity at a minimum, and to try to be as respectful of others on this forum as we can. We need to try to be friendly and supportive of one another and hold our behavior up to the same standards as we would if we were interacting in person...try to keep negativity and fighting to a minimum as well. This forum has come to be very important to me...as a place to connect with people with a shared passion for garters and as a place that I now have many friends and a social connection that I do not have in the real world. I think many people on the forum for whatever reason, busy lives, family responsibilities, depression...what have you, find connections on here that they are unable to have out in the real world. It saddens me that good members have decided to leave the forum because of problems they may have encountered here. We need to make sure that does not happen anymore.

This is certainly not directed at anyone in particular...I speak to everyone here and include myself in this. And if this makes me sound like an old fuddy duddy, than so be it...
