They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.

    Yeah right.

"Mr. Gilfillan said he bought 10,500 mice from MiceDirect early this year, delivered to his door. He keeps them in the freezer compartment of a basement refrigerator."

    And that's just the mice!

I think it's safe to assume that one does not buy and store this much snake food for "a couple of snakes"

I was going to order from MiceDirect but my order would not go through so I ordered them from RodentPro instead. maybe this was a good thing!

I don't see what difference it makes. Who cares if there was a salmonella contamination. There are no implications other than what I would do normally, and that is, wash your hands after handling mice and snakes, and store them separate from food meant for human consumption. People who were getting sick obviously failed to do that. It's not a coincidence that most of the people sickened were under age 12.

I know the owner of Mice Direct and it's a good company.

I was thinking about it this way...at least we know that MiceDirect is now taking measures to ensure that their mice do not have salmonella...we can't be sure that the other companies are doing the same.

I buy from Layne Labs. They are out of CA. Much cheaper shipping for me.
