    Back from the vet

So I just got back from taking Glyph to the vet, found out some interesting things. Turns out he is a male Radix.

Also, the vet was not too keen on the aspen, she recommended newspaper or something that wouldn't get in his eyes.

She also recommended a full color spectrum light, something I thought was not necessary for garters but I know that some reps need it, I think. I had been using the light from the tank I bought in December, which was once a fish tank. I picked one up on the way home. It looks a lot like the same color as the fish tank light, except it's a lot "cleaner"...the color is more vibrant. Other sources I have read up on say the snakes really get their vitamin D3 through their diet...but a UVB light can't hurt. I'll keep y'all posted on how he reacts to it.

Also, this book has come by good recommendation:

What's Wrong With My Snake - John Rossi, Roxanne Rossi - Google Books

Not from the vet but from someone else, I ordered it on Tuesday and I should get it next week. I'll keep y'all posted.

    Checkup!

OK, maybe it wasn't anything worth starting a thread over, but there was some debate as to the species/sex and I didn't want to leave anyone hanging.

You had every right to start your own thread.

How did the Vet. sex your snake?

Visualization. She was very sure of herself too.

I asked her if she needed to probe him and she said no. She said she could tell by the shape of his tail near the vent.

    Sounds good.
Glyph is an interesting name but then again, radixes are interesting garter snakes.

I was thinking glyph from petroglyph.

We have lots of those around here.

In fact, we have a whole park dedicated to them.

I should have said National Park.

I don't know what kind of snakes they were thinking of when they carved these into the rocks!:
