I had never actually seen that show until last night. Bunch of rednecks running around Texas, rounding up rattlers just to make a few bucks. Made me sick, the way those guys think of the snakes. They act like they're inanimate objects, there for the sole purpose of putting cash in their pockets. I hope every one of those ignorant ****s gets bit and drops dead.

    Re: roundup news

I was watching "1000 Ways To Die" the other night. Story about a restaurant that deals in black market food items. The cook accidentally knocked over a pot containing a live endangered cobra, intended to made into an illegal food dish. Care to guess what happened to the cook? Now that's justice. Maybe these people would think twice about doing roundups if rattlesnakes were that toxic. (guaranteed death in 15 min or less)

Sort of on the same subject... I was recently informed by a local, as to the location of a rattlesnake den about 20 minutes from my house. Supposedly hundreds emerge each spring. I think I'll have to go check it out. For photos, that is. He says there are "Mojave greens" there, which are supposedly a particularly toxic species. People don't just lose limbs when bitten, they die.

"Mojave green rattlesnake has a dual action venom that doesn't start destroying tissue like diamondback rattler venom does. It's worse. The Mojave green's venom goes after the blood and the nerves both and shuts down the respiratory system. "

"...widely regarded as producing one of the most toxic snake venoms in the New World"

Maybe it's no coincidence that there are no rattlesnake roundups going on around here. They've been known to kill horses here, in mere minutes. I think if I go, a high zoom camera and high boots are in order.

I'll do my best but as far as spring goes, I need to make a trip north to the bay area for garters. From what I hear, there's plenty of green rattlers around the den area all season long. I'll get to it. Let's put it this way... The area is known as "rattlesnake mountain" and the season is March through the end of October. Wouldn't surprise me if they were out now though. It's sunny and 74 F today.
