This. I always add some (I breed it for this purpose; got it from a petshop, so it isn't from a natural pond or something) when I change the water. I like how it looks (normally it covers whole surface of water, but Izy pulled out some when he was shedding). One day the plant from behind will cover whole root, so I'm hoping leaves will create some kind of roof above the water dish covered with duckweed.

There was some in the bag when I got my first ADF, I picked it all out and added it to his tank. It was nice to have green stuff, and they like the "cover" that it provides. I don't know if any survived the snail though!

I put some in Nefri's dish too. When I was doing those photos, I spotted two uninvited guests. A small aquatic snail from aquarium and...

Yeah, it's the "and" part that's worrisome. Like unseen protozoa or other harmful parasites/eggs. Nothing but clean water for my snakes. If I wouldn't drink it, then I won't give it to them.

    Re: Isis' diary.

To be honest, I was thinking about it too. "Uninvited guests" went home and water was changed. The problem is, Izy's eating those guppies and it's very difficult to get rid of snails from aquarium. Those snails are my "own breed", so I hope they aren't carriers.

And I give my snakes the water I drink myself (from the bottle), so we agree in that.

Worst of all, I went full reta***d. :/ I gave Izy some dendrobenas over last two months; not so much, maybe 10 at most (they were sold as nightcrawlers but something was bothering me so I found out they are in fact red wigglers - "european nightcrawler", wrrrrrrrrrrr).

    Re: Isis' diary.

I don't think that "european night crawlers" are the red wigglers that are bad. They're just a smaller version of the north american night crawlers, and they are somewhat redder. The bad red wigglers are very thin, sort of banded looking, stink really bad, and have yellow slime. Those are the bad ones. Anyway, if your snake happens to eat the bad ones, they will usually throw them up. They won't necessarily kill the snake but you'll definitely see that they don't have a good reaction. They usually won't hold them down. They'll come back up.

I'm thinking that your "european night crawlers" if that is indeed what they are, then those are OK even if they choose to call them "red wigglers".
