Much of their behavior undoubtedly is seasonal, but as far as I can tell, at what times they are active isn't. Of course, they'll start cruising when they need to find something, such as a mate or a place to hibernate, but apart from that... Originally Posted by adamanteus

I think I might be able to convince my parents to let me get a garter. What kind do you think would be best since I've never had one? I really like the Oregon Red Spotteds and Plains.

Parietalis is the best. No, I don't have anything to back it up with.
Plains garters have a reputation for being user friendly, so obviously that's a plus.

I like my T. e. vagrans best and find her extremely user friendly
I liked the T. radix I had a lot - also friendly and more colourful, if that's what you're looking for
