Ok, just never heard about using it on garters. I know it's a successful method to make baby corns or african house snakes to eat. Like I said though, I'll try it, thanks for the tip!

she grabbed it in a way that lower jaw of rat was outside her mouth preventing her swallowing it. When I tried to help her, she has dopped it and refused to open her mouth again. Crap, crap, crap! So much effort wasted. ;[

i would recommend not interfering when the snake appears to have got it all wrong when attempting to swallow its meal, the official view is that a snake will always grab his intended meal by the head so when swallowing all appendages fold flat against the body,BUT you have only to have kept snakes a short time to see that this is far from always true, however given time they usually figure it out. i would normally only take a hand in proceedings during food fights

My girls tend to grab things in the middle then shimmy them to the right, swallowing position. Then there's Blade she likes the tushy first.

Cee Cee does that a lot...grabs it in the middle and then slides or shakes it around...sometimes it's funny and she'll end up with a bunch of food hanging out of her mouth or off of her face.

Well, that's pretty normal behaviour. The situation with Izy was different, though I shouldn't have interfered...

It's hard sometimes not to help when it looks like they're having trouble...I have been guilty of the same sort of thing many times. Just the other day I pulled Cee Cee's shed off when I probably shouldn't have but I just couldn't stand to see her struggle anymore. You were just trying to help...don't be so hard on yourself.

Today Izy ate a rather big smelt, little scented with a guppie (it's a fastest way to make her eat). I have my lesson though - never feed snakes with living guppies, because they tend to love it about all else and refuse to eat other things. :P Scenting a fish with other fish. Yeah, right Bart, only you can do it. :P

Just few minutes ago Izy ate a worm from my hand for the first time. She's still jumpy though; the keeper (that would be me!) isn't anymore. I know it's probably nothing for you but I wanted to share it.
