    Re: William's garter snakes.

Steve, I want to breed them because I want to have some that have the same or close to the same color as one of my favorites... I don't know if I will be able to get another one like it if I don't breed it. I know I can take care of the babies!

In the past, I have just put the ones I want to breed together for long periods of time. I learn a few details here and there, when I look up some info about garter breeding, every now and then. I think I know what to do... I'm just not sure! I just need some advice!

Marnie, they are doing better. They are with other snakes who have been with me for a while, and they are starting to get adjusted and they are starting to calm down. I think being with other snakes is benefiting them.

Breeding doesn't ensure you'll get the same colour if you're breeding NWs. They rarely look like their parents. Also, they are a PITA to breed the way normal ones breed, because they can store sperm and ovulate when they please.

I was going to breed NWs. I can wait extra time if needed. And I was hoping for at least one like the female. I don't expect them all to look the same.

I was hoping to produce this color:

Red, Black, and Orange.. I can't see if it shows the colors well or not, the colors on my monitor are really bad. You can't see it at all because the colors are backwards of what they should be. At least for me, that is. By the way, I pulled that picture off of my Photobucket account. In fact, that's the female I want to breed.

NW babies can also be pretty stubborn. Speckles died fom her lack of eating, drinking and impaction. I think it was more of the hunger and dehydration. But, really you could be waiting over a year just for her to ovulate.

Chantel and I are doing a breeding project right now with our red stripes. They babies are polymorphic so there is no predicting what they will look like. We are hoping that two reds will increase the odds though.

Kibakiba, Time doesn't matter to me, but you are doing the opposite of encouraging me. Oh well.

Marnie, I had to take them in, the kid said he was going to let them go in like a week or so because he couldn't keep them. I wanted them of course though.

Katach, good luck with your project.

You guys know how it is. The snakes that I took in probably would not have been able to make it. It's really cold here now.
