Re: Need some ideas for terrarium "rack" or "shelf"

You're saying just a shelf on the wall? HUH. didn't even think of that!

Anything special about that wood or are jut saying a big piece of wood like that?

Sticking a shelf on the wall the brackets and wall plugs are more important than the wood you use for the shelf. Almost any piece of wood or MDF will do the shelf, but you want to be sure it won't be falling off the wall. Depending what sort of wall you fix to there's all sorts of fixings, I'd use heavier rated fixings than the weight of your tanks just because I prefer to overkill when it's holding something I care about.

Not sure what depth your vivs are but this sort of shelving units is pretty flexible, if you have an Ikea near you.

We like Ikea, we have a bunch of their shelves around the house.

Still leaning toward a rackish thing. I just remembered Richard had something so I searched for it, and I like this --

Re: Need some ideas for terrarium "rack" or "shelf"

I built this unit for a good friend of mine here in Washington. It was a monster unit.

There is aan 8" section about each of the habitats and thats where I placed heat lamps which used a 50 watt bulb. I was surprised that that was engingh heat to maintain 80 degrees in the boxed habitat section.

you can also see the 4" hole at the bottom which gave access to a pull out tub. He ahd Black Texas Rat snkesa and a Bal. I wounder if he still has it ????

Hmmm, I like that. But it doesn't hold many cages, and has less room for lamps and stuff, and i don't do tubs. May use somethibng LIKE that though. Thanks for the idea

Re: Need some ideas for terrarium "rack" or "shelf"

I'm thinking about getting my dad to make me either 3 modular stacking vivs, to a design I'll get him to agree to without seeing the design.
Or the alternative is a custom shelving unit that is made to hold Exo Terra vivs. The trouble with shelves we can buy is that they tend not to be 45cm deep to hold a viv, and it would need holes in the right places for ventilation and wiring.
I'm not sure if we'll go for plan A or plan B, but I will keep an eye on this thread to see if there are any ideas that influence what we do.

I'm liking this. Simple, cheap, expandable, etc...
